For the past week I have been checking my mailbox every day with such anticipation it has been heart wrenching. Then, today, I open it up and start squealing! I am so excited to have my photographs in Occasions Magazine for their fall issue! They featured Victoria and Max’s wedding which was amazing of course! Take a peek below and grab yourself a copy while you are out!

 

 

 

Isn’t it beautiful! I not only am so excited about the publication my new “baby” arrived this week after months of being on a waiting list due to backorders by the manufacturer. Its an 85mm f1.4 and it is magnificent! I also picked up a 35mm f2, might as well right? I took all these images with the 35mm lens and I can’t wait for Allyson’s wedding next week to try them out! Yay for an awesome start to the weekend!

I am excited to offer my workshop classes for a second time this year! A portion of the proceeds will go to charities that aid the world community. The classes will be held July 11 and 12 in Griffin, Georgia. They cover a variety of topics from learning how to get great exposures, posing, branding, how to conduct client meetings, setting prices, shooting with flash and basic studio lighting techniques. Monday’s class is for the new professional as well as the avid amateur. Tuesdays classes are geared more  toward the business professional and amateur photographers that are seeking to advance their flash and lighting skills.

I am so excited to start shooting weddings this year. I have spent the last 2 months going to workshops and teaching workshops. All this has given me access to so many wonderful photographers sharing ideas and inspiration I am about to burst! I can’t wait until next weekend for Allyson’s engagement session and then it’s a double header wedding weekend the following week! I have some pretty impressive, if I do say so myself, lighting techniques for the wedding receptions this year along with an overload of ideas for shots of the bride and groom together. I am approaching my photography and specifically wedding photography with the idea of telling a story with my images. I found a deeper love for the wedding itself and thus a deeper love for the photography that documents it.

I am ready to move in a more refined direction with my wedding photography and a more fun direction with my engagement and lifestyle photography! So who’s with me?!?

I would like to know who decided that the best place to document a couples love was the park. I could totally understand this if you are an avid outdoors type but really why is it the default answer to a location for photos? So here is my proposal. Let’s skip the park and do something more unique and related to who you are as a person and a couple! The reason I love wedding photography is because it is always different. Different people, different venues, different decor. It inspires me to have something new in front of my lens. So you can guess that hundreds of trips to the park might stifle my creative vision. So lets break the mold and go to some new places! I will bring some cute props too, like the love birds below.

I am have a running list on my board in my office of places I would love to go with my couples this year.

These are in no particular order:

  • Atlanta Botanical Gardens
  • Fernbank
  • High Museum
  • Marta Station
  • Airport
  • Nursery Farm
  • Record shop
  • Cupcake shop
  • Ice-cream shop
  • Manual’s Tavern
  • Ikea

That’s as long as my list is at the moment. Please comment with other suggestions you might have. I am all ears! So to all my brides out there! Who’s up for it! Let’s do something fun and different this time!

I met with Neil and Monica and they are the most precious couple on the planet! Neil is a photographer so you know I loved talking cameras with him for quite a while! I am shooting their wedding in April but due to them living in New York, Friday was our first opportunity to meet in person. Then later that evening I am notified that I have been given the honor of being call the “best” by Atlanta Bridal! I was floored and ecstatic all at once. Then on Monday morning I woke to a feature of a gorgeous wedding I shot a few months back on Occasions Magazine’s blog! It doesn’t stop there! I even booked my first wedding for 2012! Not bad progress for Monday morning! I am just so thrilled at where my camera has taken me and my heart is truly humbled when things like this happen. Thank you to all that support me and I am so excited for all the weddings I am going to shoot this year!

The last few weeks have been spent revamping the website, working on bringing forth a more consistent brand and super awesome and super new MySite! Today was the such an awesome yet overwhelming day! We ended the first day of THE WORKSHOP and I feel utterly excited and exhausted all at the same time. We spent the first part of the morning learning about the importance of shooting manual and how to expose correctly. I taught them how to read the ever daunting histogram.  We talked a great deal about white balance and how to use flash…so much that it is a bit of a blur. I can only imagine what it was like for the attendees.  We had amazing photo shoot with two of my great friends, and real life couple, Paul and Elisha. If you follow the blog you know that she is a great friend and an incredible designer. She made the dress that she wore today and they were so excited to have their “pretend” wedding today 4 years after they tied the knot.  I will blog more and post lots of photos from the weekend later once I have time to recoop. We will be up early tomorrow learning all about editing and marketing. Jessica Ashley gets to take over and I am thankful to have a break and hang in the shadows.
